Sometimes you attend a conference and the content is a little dry and the day trundles along at a noticeable pace. But this week, Guy Felicella came along and crushed my gut with his touching story. He wove his story expertly, making the audience question how they view populations on the outskirts of normalcy.

He told shared his struggles with abuse, drugs and what it was like to be unhoused. What floored me were the touching interactions of the people he met along the way who helped him on his road to recovery. I had to distract myself with my laptop to stop myself from welling up with tears. You know the feeling: it’s that crushing weight of your heart dropping and your throat getting tight. Its windows into life stories like these that make it truly worthwhile to do this job. Thank you Mr.Felicella.
